The First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA) is expanding its team and looking for a full-time Manager of Education. If you are passionate about supporting First Nations health leadership and looking to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, then this is an opportunity for you!


FNHMA is a not-for-profit national professional association involved in expanding health management capacity for First Nations. FNHMA provides leadership in First Nation health management activities by developing and promoting quality standards, practices, research, certification, networking, and professional development to expand capacity for our members and First Nations.


Job Summary and Core Competencies

The Manager of Education will focus on expanding capacity for members and First Nations through targeted professional development, certification programs, and strategic initiatives that support long-term growth and sustainability.


The Manager of Education is responsible for leading, directing, and managing the education program, and ensuring that all educational initiatives support the mission of promoting health management in First Nation communities. This role models and embraces the Seven Teachings of trust, respect, honour, honesty, humility, courage and truth, while demonstrating competency and integrity across all educational programs and services.

Key responsibilities include advocating, fostering and nurturing relationships with subject matter experts and partners to create sustainable relationships; overseeing the recruitment, training, and performance management of all direct reports; and managing and reporting on financial resources in a way that ensures compliance with annual budgets and auditing standards.


The Manager of Education will possess a deep understanding of First Nations health service delivery, navigate its complexities, and align all educational programs and services with the identified needs. The successful candidate will lead and cultivate a culture of ongoing enhancement within the FNHMA’s education program. They will also lead planning in the education department and ensure alignment with the FNHMA strategic plan.


Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Corporate Services.


Qualifications and Skills
  • A bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field is required. The Certified First Nations Health Manager Designation (CFNHM), Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator (CAPA) or Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM), and equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant career experience in professional development, adult education and workshop facilitation.

  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, curriculum development, and assessment methods.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in management positions with similar organizations, specifically management/leadership experience within Indigenous organizations.

  • Knowledge of programs, policies and legislation impacting First Nations involvement in health and education.

  • Experience working in a public sector funding environment, including developing government funding proposals, management of funds, and reporting requirements.

  • Experience in budgeting, resource management, and compliance within an educational setting.

  • Proficient leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, staff, learners, and external partners.

  • English is the working language; however, the ability to work in both official languages and an Indigenous language is an asset.

Compensation: $94,500 - $114,5000 including comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, pension plan, generous paid-time off incentives and professional development support.

Term: Permanent

Work Location: Ottawa. Occasional travel required for meetings, engagements, and national conference.
