FNHMA is happy to be partnering with Health Standards Organization (HSO) to host a virtual discussion session in support of the development of the new National Standard of Canada for Cultural Safety and Humility, which is currently open for public feedback until February 27, 2026.
This national standard is being developed by an Indigenous Technical Committee and outlines the requirements and accountabilities for health and social service organizations to collaboratively design, deliver, and evaluate culturally safe services with and for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples and communities. It also focuses on addressing Indigenous-specific racism in service delivery.
To help elevate First Nations perspectives in this important process, FNHMA is hosting a two-hour virtual Lunch & Learn discussion on February 20 from 1:00–3:00 PM EST, in partnership with HSO. The session will provide an overview of the development process behind the draft standard and create space for open dialogue and feedback.
The discussion will be led and moderated by FNHMA CEO Marion Crowe, and we are inviting First Nations health leaders to share their insights, experiences, and recommendations on what culturally safe care should look like in practice and what actions organizations must take to support it.
HSO is welcoming feedback from all interested individuals through their public review process:https://healthstandards.org/public-reviews/cultural-safety-and-humility/
Your participation will help shape a national standard grounded in Indigenous voices and community priorities.
