The First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA), in collaboration with the First Nations Housing Professionals Association (FNHPA), is pleased to announce the release of Building Wellness, Housing and Health, Stronger Together: A Collaborative Toolkit for First Nations Communities, a practical new resource designed to strengthen collaboration between the housing and health sectors in First Nations communities.
Healthy communities begin with healthy homes. Safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing is a foundational determinant of health and wellness, influencing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. By bringing housing and health professionals together, First Nations communities can create more coordinated, community-driven approaches that improve outcomes for individuals, families, and future generations.
Developed through a collaborative partnership, this toolkit provides practical guidance for First Nations health managers, housing professionals, community planners, leadership, and frontline staff who are working to build stronger, more integrated services.
What's Inside?
Designed as an introductory "101" guide, the toolkit offers practical resources to help communities begin or strengthen collaboration between the housing and health sectors.
Readers will find:
Practical tools, templates, and planning resources that can be adapted to meet community needs.
Examples of successful collaboration and promising practices from First Nations communities.
Guidance rooted in First Nations values, knowledge systems, and strengths-based approaches.
Strategies to support coordinated planning, communication, and decision-making across sectors.
More than just a reference guide, the toolkit is intended to inspire meaningful conversations, strengthen relationships, and encourage new ways of working together to improve community wellness.
For organizations looking to continue their learning journey, the toolkit also includes additional "201-level" resources that provide opportunities to develop knowledge, build capacity further, and deepen collaboration.
